I’ve been designing and selling jewelry for a while now and I love it, it’s really just a little hobby for me that allows me to incorporate my design experience and love for jewelry all in one. Thanks to Myspace and Facebook it has allowed me to get my work out to the masses and meet so many people who are now my customers, business contacts, good friends and loyal fans. It’s amazing how many people have been so welcoming and appreciative of my work, the only bad thing about these social networking sites is that it also allows the negative people in and without warning.
Top priorities in my business are to always remain professional, design beautiful pieces and deliver excellent customer service, with or without Facebook or any other networking site. When you go on those sites for business or personal use you just don’t know who or what situation you will encounter, so I have set my own rules for communicating with people online. I have learned that less is more, keep some distance, and watch what you say and who you say it to. I broke some of those rules a couple of times and the results were not good, they were both bad experiences that I have learned from.
I don’t know why people feel like they are competing with you when they should be supporting you, it turns into retaliation, kicking people off pages and juvenile behavior. Why is there so much mean spirit going around all of these sites? Aren’t we suppose to support the starving artist and the B&M shops? I see it happening on Etsy between other designers who post messages directed at other artists they feel bothered by. High school wasn’t even this bad and I see people older than me engaging in this kind of negative behavior, it’s disappointing.
You will not see me post anything negative or leave mean inside jokes to the people I had an issue with on FB or Myspace, it’s counterproductive and not worth my time. Be happy, wish others well and move on, focus on the positive things in your life and everything else will fall into place, it just makes life a lot easier!
